3 Stars Low Price means Low Quality
I didn’t know much about pop filters except that I needed one. Having never shopped for one before I was unaware of the variety of types and quality. My local brick & mortar shop offered a 6 inch pop filter for $27 and it looked pretty simple. I paid about $16 for this one. The low price made me wonder what I would find in the box. I decided to try two different types of pop filter. After reading many product descriptions in this category I chose this Nady single screen type and a double screen type from Musicians Gear. I received this one first. When I opened the package, the screen mesh part of the filter fell out of its frame. I found that the frame could not be tightened enough to hold the screen mesh securely in place!! Not a good first impression. I made simple shims out of scissor cut pieces of rubber band and was able to reassemble the filter in a way that allowed it to stay together well. I figured for the price I got what I paid for. The gooseneck is substantial and holds the filter in place nicely. The gooseneck can be removed from the mounting clamp which is another cost savings to the manufacturer but can be useful to the user who doesn’t need or want to use the clamp. The clamp is OK and is identical to the clamp on the second filter I bought. I thought the rubber “bumper” on the tip of the screw that secures the clamp to its mounting point was a bit small and too “squishy”. Again, one gets what one pays for. In the end, this pop filter mounted with little trouble, seemed secure and provided the needed service. The screen mesh frame seems fragile to me and can fall apart easily. This is definitely a consumer product meant for a stable, unchanging installation. It is not a “professional” quality product and would not survive one trip outside the studio.

4 Stars Decent Pop Filter
It does what it’s supposed to do. It’s as well made as most, I think. They all look cheap to me, unless you get a studio professional grade. The screen pops out easily, but it will pop back in. It works well for my home recording.

5 Stars Great Item, very versatile for an on the go audio user.
Clamps to just about anything, and is versatile enough to eliminate the pops in audio without taking up a lot of room in your bag.

5 Stars Does what it should
Good price, solid construction, and does what it should. I’m using it over a snowball mic and it clamped right on. Twisted the neck in place and it seems to hold quite well.

4 Stars It works and it’s a good price
I read all the reviews on all the pop filters that amazon sells for about $20. They did not inspire confidence. This particular one seemed less bad than most. There were 3 basic complaints about this pop filter: Weak clamp that bends and warps when any torque is applied, weak goose neck and the actual filter falling out.

1. The clamp – it is perfectly adequate. I don’t know what king of torque people need to apply to it that it is bending, but it’s just holding up a pop filter. It’s not a vise.

2. The gooseneck – very strong and sturdy, move the filter into place and it stays.

3. Filter falling out – this is a problem. The outer loop that holds the filter in place (around an inner loop) is loose and there isn’t any way to tighten it.

Of course the filter performs perfectly also.

4 Stars Excellent product; Vista users, beware…
Update: Beta drivers are out now on this product for Vista 64 bit, and they work pretty well.

I would have given this product 5 stars, but since switching to a new computer running Vista 64 bit, I have had some problems.

This is an extremely competent interface, and will do exactly what you need it to do. I have had it for over 3 years, and it has worked flawlessly throughout. It’s very simple: install your drivers, plug it in via USB, and you are ready to go. I used it as my mic input, and just as a regular sound card. Because it supports ASIO, I never had a single latency issue with this device, and I run a lot of taxing programs (FL Studio, SONAR, and Reason). It’s very solid and durable as well, almost feels unbreakable at times. I dropped it from over 10 feet, and it still worked perfect.

Now, if you are on Vista 64 bit, and considering this product, please wait. There are no current drivers available. M-Audio will tell you that it’s class compliant, and will work, which is only half true. It will work, but you will have to download a third party program that offers ASIO support, and maybe jump through a few other hoops to get it to work DECENTLY, and not have horrible latency problems. Just keep that in mind.

1 Star If you want something solid – do not buy this!
Bought one of these a while back. on my first system i was running windows xp pro, the drivers then were bad. since then I’ve changed to vista 64 bit operating system. big mistake m-audio has no support what so ever. in their forums they have lied to people that they would have a driver out in a couple of weeks. That was nearly over half a year ago. So their strategy is to say this every three or four weeks just to keep you on the edge of your seat. before you buy this just go to their forum on their website and search for mobilepre usb 64 bit and see for your self. stay clear of this company!

Update: Looks like they actually came through with the VISTA drivers, which were released on 8/22/2008. Since I returned mine, I would love to hear if you have it working on Vista SP1 or better.

Looked like a decent product, however…. Turns out that the drivers for VISTA are still in Beta after 1 year (last release of the driver is over a year ago). To make matters worse, it is known NOT to work with Vista SP1, as of May 2008. They don’t expect to have a driver update until October. However, since the last driver update is over a year ago, I put the chances of a real driver update at near zero. Too bad, looked like a good product.

Didn’t work on any of my VISTA machines. Sending it back.

No supported by Windows XP Media Center. I finally found this on the manufacturer web page. Could be nice if the warning is on Amazon so, you don’t waste time ordering and returning
